Purple Poplar Polypore by Anna Szalc

PURPLE POPLAR POLYPORE

This watercolor piece was born after I noticed the color and pattern similarities between Poplar Hawk-moths and Turkey Tail mushrooms. It is an exploration not only of mere visible repetition and rhythm, but also of the underlying similarities that can be found throughout nature. Not only do the moths and mushrooms share a color and pattern, even the little hairs of the moth echo the minute streaks on the mushrooms.

Anna Szalc is a student in USCB's studio art program. She has an intense interest in the repetition and little details found in nature. Her dream job would be to stare at birds, bugs, and plants all day, but she would also settle for work as a portraitist and illustrator.
