An Autoportrait of Sensory Experience Deconstructed in Virtual Space – The Eye

CREATIVE STATEMENT

An Autoportrait of Sensory Experience Deconstructed in Virtual Space (2020) is a series of digital photographs which depict the hybridization of flesh into digital spaces. By compiling textures from the artist’s body, then projecting them onto sculptural textiles, there occurs a potent transfiguration of the human form. The bodily components are not selected by choice; they represent the points of intrusion into the human brain. They are the voids through which external input becomes processed internally. The work reimagines how such forms would exist in a varying state of parameters. What is the fleshiness of a lip without a body attached to it? How does an eye gaze when floating inside of a black vacuum? How will the body modify when contained inside of digital space.
